.
PASSED
in the State House of Representatives
on March 22, 2017, by a vote of
78-60
.
Purpose: To allow law enforcement officers to confiscate firearms, without a warrant, from anyone arrested or cited for domestic violence. The firearm(s) could be held for up to five days.
.
Analysis: This bill creates a host of constitutional problems from citizens’ right to bear arms to the right to due process. In fact, one member of the House Judiciary Committee commented during debate that “the more you dig, the more problems you find.” Oddly, this was used as a rationale for ending debate, not killing the bill.
.
As Recorded in the House Journal, Wednesday, March 22, 2017: “Shall the bill pass? was decided in the affirmative. Yeas, 78. Nays, 60. ” ( Read the Journal, p. 481-483.)

As usual, the Democrat from Morrisville, David Yacovone, betrays his constituents and votes along party lines. Will this thirst for tyranny ever end? This law is no good for Vermont, and it is a thinly veiled piece of gun control. It is an obvious violation of the constitution that I hope the governor will veto. Gun owners should be watching this one.
David Yacovone continues his record of bad politics.
