An open letter to Gov. Scott and VT’s mayors in advance of the “Climate Strike”

Dear Governor Scott,

As you are certainly aware, during the week of September 20-27 climate change activists around the world will participate in a “Global Climate Strike and Week of Actions.” The objective is to promote acts of civil disobedience in order to intimidate governments into adopting more militant climate change agenda.

Here in Vermont, climate activists are currently holding training sessions to teach people how to disrupt and/or shut down events, block roadways, close off buildings, and to skip school and work in order to impact policy decisions. Here is the email sent out by “Sonia” of 350.org, Bill McKibben’s activist group, on July 18:

One of the ways you can start preparing is to join us for a Nonviolent Direct Action training – a powerful tool for social change!  If you’re looking to be part of impactful actions in September and beyond, or want to take your activism to the next level, then these trainings are for you.

These workshops will be hands-on and interactive. Through role plays and experiential activities, we will learn the importance of collective action and its connection to collective liberation, the basics of NVDA (nonviolent direct action) theory, creative tactics for shutting things down to spotlight injustice, and legal factors to consider, all with a focus on how to use NVDA strategically within a campaign.

Please join us:

Wednesday, July 31, 6-8pm, Grace Church, Rutland.  Click here to register.  Co-sponsored by Climate Disobedience Center.

Sunday, August 18, 10am-4pm, Bugbee Center, White River Junction.  Click here to register.  Co-sponsored by Climate Disobedience Center and Extinction Rebellion.

Saturday, September 7, 10am-4pm, Burlington.  Click here to register.  Co-sponsored by Climate Disobedience Center.

Click here to pledge to join youth and adults around the world in striking on Sept. 20! If you’d like to get involved in organizing strikes and actions in Vermont, contact Leif: mobilize@350vt.org.

See you in the streets!      Sonia and the 350Vermont Team

As you know, the climate change activists have already successfully – and illegally — disrupted a session of the Vermont House, stopped the Strolling of the Heifers parade in Brattleboro, and shut down traffic in downtown Montpelier. Sometime very soon 350.org will bus activists to Bow, New Hampshire in an attempt to surround and shut down the coal-burning Merrimack Station, that supplies 440 Mw of reliable electricity to the New England grid.

While we strongly support the First Amendment rights of concerned citizens in a free society to speak their piece and to associate to advance their interests, we also understand the need for rule of law as well as the protection of the rights of citizens going about their business who want no part of this kind of mob action.

To this end, we would like your assurance that:

  1. you and your public safety officials are well aware of what’s coming.
  2. you have plans in place for preventing or minimizing the impact of these actions on the lawful activities of non-participants.
  3. you are fully prepared to support the arrest and prosecution of persons who break the law, and
  4. you will insist that persons convicted of organizing and fomenting these disruptions actually serve time in the appropriate correctional institution, during which they can reflect on how their wrongful behavior seriously inconvenienced and harmed police departments, businesses, schools, utility managers, and their fellow citizens.

Thank you for your urgent consideration.

As a public policy organization, we would also like to know what changes in Vermont’s criminal statutes might be necessary and desirable to enable law enforcement and prosecutors to more effectively deter and punish similar actions in the future.

Respectfully,
Robert Roper
President
Ethan Allen Institute

This is horrible! What are they thinking? Oh, that’s right, they aren’t thinking, just reacting. The action planned are bad enough but advertising it to impressionable children is terrible. It is essentially telling the children that it is alright to break the law. Again, What are they thinking?

They are all for peace …. unless that doesn’t work. Then they resort to whatever tactic(s) they feel will be successful in forcing their will on society.

Why are you writing our governor who already believes that climate change is happening and it’s caused by us?
What makes you think he’s not aware of the things you bring up , and that he would not prosecute , people who would harm the citizens of Vt.
All across this country and around the world people will be accommodating folks who show they care about the earth and it’s people .
It would seem to me that if you know climate change is not happening that you would be going to our schools and explaining that to the teachers and students .
In fact I think if you know something the rest of us don’t . You should be going to UVM and explaining to them the science you know that they don’t know , it’s very likely they could explain that to the rest of the world better then you.
You say that climate activists are being influenced and you probably think they or scientists are being paid to influence them for capital gain .
Please could we have a list and objective vetted list of these people and groups who do such bad things ?
If it’s true many of us would like to know . In fact I would because so far I haven’t been paid . In fact I will loose quite a lot of money on whole house batteries I bought for my home . I will have 30 hours of clean power when the power goes out . And Green Mt power will have the electricity they need from my batteries when they have to buy more expensive and dirty power from out of state . And I will be helping Green power keep the bills low because they will save money .
And my wife when I die will not have worry about the power going out .
But I will loose money . Except for me loosing money this shows a well thought a plan this is . To both help out lowering your and my bill and making me safe from a Power loss . I suppose you forgot about the hurricane we had .
But on the plus side for me my solar panels will pay off . Over the course of 30 years my panels will have paid for themselves in 11 years . That’s all profit for me .
But I still don’t think that’s fair because those less fortunate then me won’t be able to save over the long run like me.
My big point here is that your fighting a losing battle . The earth isn’t going to stop getting hotter . Scientists with out the outside influence you say they have , will continue to say what they do . And god is not going to come down and explaining how to fix things to our scientists .
A car puts it’s own weight in pollution every six months into the air every year . A truck puts its own weight in pollution into the air in three months . Now if you know that’s not true , then I suggest you explain that to all the people who will be coming out on that day .

It is apparent that Mr. Thaddeus Cline has not spent much time researching this issue. Not only has there been massive fraud in the reporting of climate science, proven in some of the highest courts, there are serious social, economic and political aspects that would dramatically alter our everyday lives should the Climate Alarmists achieve their goals. The ultimate goal is not a secret – it’s the destruction of Capitalism, to be replaced with a Socialist, totalitarian government which controls ALL human activity. Mr. Cline, I applaud your actions to ensure your family has power by installing solar energy storage; however, under the Green New Deal, that will not be nearly enough. The plan is for most people to not own a vehicle, be restricted in travel, be restricted in where they live, and be restricted in what they eat (beef is on the way out because of the absurd claim that cow flatulence is warming the planet). The IPCC (UN International Panel on Climate Change) has itself admitted their role is to redistribute the wealth from 1st World countries to 3rd World countries. On the local level, you might recall the 2015 interview of our own developer, David Blittersdorf, who revealed the vision for Vermont – https://yesvy.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-green-vision-for-vermont-we-cant-be.html#.XW5B7XdFzIU.
It’s imperative we ALL do the homework on this issue. Most people believe they know the issue because they hear about it all the time from many, authoritarian, sources they see on TV or hear on their radios. Trust me, if those are your sources and you have not researched this yourself, you remain ignorant. At this time, you are free to be willfully ignorant, but in the Green New Deal future, you will lose most of your freedoms.

Correction – IPCC is the Intergovernmental, not International, Panel on Climate Change
It is first a political organization, not scientific. The Policy Summary they issue has been shown to not necessarily reflect the work of the scientists’ research in the full report, and some of those scientists have taken issue with the misrepresentation of their work.
